LAKE CHARLES – The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, was the celebrant of a Solemn Pontifical Mass in the Extraordinary Form on Sunday, Dec. 26, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Clergy participants in the Mass, which was the first Solemn Pontifical Mass in the Cathedral since the issuance of Summorum Pontificum by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007, included Father Roland Vaughn as Arch-Priest; Father Rommel Tolentino as Master of Ceremonies to the Cathedra; Father Scott Conner as Deacon for the Mass; Seminarian David Hardey as Subdeacon for the Mass; Deacon Jeff Starkovich as Subdeacon to the Cross; Father Nathan Long and Deacon John Huckaby as Deacons to the Cathedra; and Seminarian Bryan Thompson as Assistant Master of Ceremonies.
Seminarians studying for the priesthood for the Diocese of Lake Charles served as miter, crozier, book, bugia and gremial bearers, as well as thurifer.
A schola cantorum provided the music, which was sung in Gregorian Chant. Mr. Jerry Crews was the organist.
Since the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council but before Summorum Pontificum, The Most Reverend Jude Speyrer, the founding Bishop of Lake Charles, had previously celebrated a Mass in the Extraordinary Form in the Cathedral.
