I first wish to extend my gratitude to Father Edward Richard, Pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, for having spearheaded this Fortnight for Freedom Rally.  We are all concerned about the state of religious freedom in this country, and I truly appreciate the attendance this morning of so many religious and civic leaders in our community.

   BATON ROUGE – The Legislative Session came to a close on Monday, June 4.  There were many pieces of legislation that the Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops weighed in on.  These ranged from Education Reform, Pro-Life issues, Social Justice Issues, as well as Louisiana's budget.

LAKE CHARLES – On the recent weekend of the Solemnity of Pentecost, the Diocese began an enrollment of the faithful in an association dedicated to connecting Christ’s followers to the Eucharist and to the Church at large. The “Apostleship of Prayer” dates to missionaries in France in 1844.

LAKE CHARLES – The Most Reverend Glen John Provost ordained Reverend Bryan Thompson to the priesthood for the Diocese of Lake Charles on Saturday, May 26, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The newly ordained was joined by his brother priests of the Diocese and clergy from elsewhere for the ordination.
